Banners Add an Extra Dimension to Dance

I began to use banners when I went to my first dance conference many years ago. This was something that was very new for me but I found that many dancers at the conference used them in all shapes, sizes and colours.

As I became more and more familiar with combining the banners with dance I learned that there was an added dimension that came with the combination of the two.

The very first time I danced God spoke very clearly that this was something that He was going to use to bless others. I had asked Him to send angels to push back the darkness and for Him to come and dance with me. After I completed the dance a lady in the congregation stood and said she saw the host of heaven pushing back the darkness and then she said “I saw the Lord, He was dancing with Julie”.

I have found that using banners creates a greater visual effect when dancing. There are many testimonies of what people have experienced when I have danced. Once when I danced with a river banner a lady was completely healed of cancer. Glory to God!! There have been many other testimonies of healings and people encountering the Lord in special ways. As I have traveled to other nations of the world I have learned that banners and dance and bridge any language barrier.

Since my very first encounter with banners and dance I have begun to make my own banners under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. A friend initially gave me some 100% pure silk and told me that God wanted me to make banners. This was something very new for me but as I began to experiment I found that God has anointed me to create banners that are unique. I have learnt to dye the silk and then shape the silk to represent many different aspects of God's nature and character.

Banners Add an Extra Dimension to DanceMy favourites are fire banners, river banners, banners to use in warfare and rainbow banners. With the fire banners I like to add layers of silk fringes that look like fingers of fire when I dance.

Since my first experiments with banners I have began to create my own dance garments that compliment the banners and these add a greater prophetic picture to what the music and songs are saying. I have also added ribbons and once again these add an extra dimension and allow people to have a greater understanding of what God is saying to them through the dance and music.

My heart is to exalt the name of Jesus and allow His Spirit to touch, heal and restore people through the prophetic picture He has me create through the use of dance, banners and costumes. I would encourage anyone who in interested in allowing God is use them in this kind of ministry to just go for it. God is not looking for “professionals” but rather both men and women who want to show forth His glory in a creative way.

I have also now put together a dance team with 2 other ladies. We use banners to usher in the majesty of God and have also found that using the banners together as a team in worship and warfare increases the anointing in a tangible way. We have also created some intimate Bridal banners which we use to prophetically declare the relationship between the Bride (church) and the Bridegroom (Jesus).

God has now led me in my journey with dance and banners to start a dance studio where I am teaching both children and adults how to flow with the Holy Spirit in prophetic dance using banners, ribbons and costume.

Banners in the Bible

John 12:30-32
Jesus said, 'This voice was for your benefit, not Mine. Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself'.

Isaiah 13:1-4
An oracle concerning Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw: Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles. I have commanded my holy ones; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath- those who rejoice in my triumph. Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The LORD Almighty is mustering an army for war.

Jeremiah 50:2
Announce and proclaim among the nations, lift up a banner and proclaim it; keep nothing back, but say, Babylon will be captured; Bel will be put to shame, Marduk filled with terror, her images will be put to shame and her idols filled with terror.
